White Balance and Color Temperature

White balance refers to how to make the white in the picture look like the color white. For instance different white balances might be used to make a cloud in a picture look white or to make snow look white on top of a mountain.

Color temperature is the color of the light source. Inside lights tend to be more red or orange causing white things to look these colors. The camera can be adjusted to make sure that the color temperature of the light source that white objects will look white.
